Civic Sense refers to an individual’s awareness and responsibility towards public spaces and community well-being. It includes behaviours such as waste management, adherence to traffic rules, and respect for public property.

The Status of civic sense in India is lacking; it is evident through public littering, disregard for traffic rules, vandalism of public property and noise pollution. These behaviours reflect a cultural disconnect and weak infrastructure. India’s civic challenges have tarnished its global image, particularly through the behaviour of some tourists abroad.

Poor civic sense erodes social cohesion and community trust, increasing interpersonal tensions and reducing cooperative behaviours. Therefore, India’s civic challenges stem from historical, cultural, educational, governance and psychological factors.

A civic-minded India is crucial for National development, encompassing public health, social cohesion, economic growth and National Pride.

So civic transformation is not just about aesthetics but about creating a society defined by mutual respect and collective responsibility, offering an opportunity to strengthen communities, improve quality of life and build national pride.
