Necessary Evil - SANDHANA S

My childhood ambition was to become an advocate. However, whenever I expressed this aloud, all I heard was the lying and how it supposedly affects society. As a child, I was convinced that being an advocate was a “bad” profession. Later, I realized it is just as honourable as any other, which led me to pursue my dream as a law student. 

Everyone hates an advocate until they need one, especially when their rights, finances, freedom or families are on the line. Law is not just a set of rules; it is an “armour” worn by the people. It may feel like a burden until you are under attack. In today’s world, very little can be accomplished without an advocate’s help. There is much more to the role than people realize - drafting legal documents, handling registrations, and providing legal advice. When someone’s rights are violated and they have nowhere else to go, they finally realize we are a “necessity” in society.

It is not easy to manage a case, fulfil a client’s needs, and identify every legal opportunity to prove a client’s point of view. I believe that being an advocate is a service to society, giving people the strength to fight for their rights. I request that people, even if you don’t appreciate the law profession as an ambition, please don’t discourage it. I hope the perspective on the law profession changes, and I welcome more students to pursue law without hesitation.
